(Both Courses are FETAC Certified)The 2008 Occupational First Aid standards regarding First Aid Training consist of 8 units, which include Cardiac First Responder training in Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), as per PHECC (Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council, of Ireland) standard, and administering aspirin for heart attack patients.
Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007, there is a requirement on employers, based on a risk assessment of their work, to have sufficient numbers of Occupational First Aiders trained and deployed in the workplace. With training from our HSA recognised Instructors, our Occupational First Aid courses will satisfy your legal requirements under the the relevant regulations. All our Instructors are registered as Occupational First Aid Instructors with the Health & Safety Authority agent, OFAAA.
Objectives Of The Occupational First Aid Training Program are to:
Understand the responsibilities of the Occupational First Aider- Be familiar with health and safety legislation regarding first aid provision in the workplace
- Be able to provide treatment for preserving life or minimising the consequences of injury until the arrival of medical aid
- Be able to provide treatment in the workplace for an injury which does not require the attention of a medical practitioner or nurse
- Be capable of coordinating first aid arrangements in the workplace
- Successful participants will be registered as Occupational First Aiders
FETAC Assessment/Certification
All assessments are carried out in accordance with FETAC regulations and are internally verified and externally authenticated before certification is issued. Participants who successfully complete the written and practical examinations will be awarded with a FETAC Level 5 component certificate in Occupational First Aid which is valid for 2 years as per HSA guidelines.

APPOINTED PERSONS FIRST AID / BASIC FIRST AID TRAINING
For workplaces which may have a lesser degree of risk, or which have fewer staff, as well as workplaces which may be in proximity to a medical centre, hospital or GP surgery, this training program may suit you best.
All the essentials of First Aid at the workplace are covered. The Trainees will be taught subjects which include:
- Identification of an emergency situation or accident & how to take control of this
- Staying safe & not placing oneself in more danger
- How to treat bleeding, shock, bruises, broken bones, burns and other treatments which may be required for your workplace
- Resuscitation techniques & ABC
- Preparing the accident victim or situation for further care, such as by a doctor, nurse of medical crew.
Following this training, the participants will be able to take control of an emegency situation, identify what the potential problems are and treat the person, either until they recover or further medical care arrives at the scene.

First Aid Refresher – FETAC
This one-day FETAC Occupational First Aid level 5 Component certificate course covers all the essential aspects of Occupational First Aid. Refresher courses are essential every two years for certified First Aiders to keep up with developments in First Aid practice, and to refresh skills that may be only intermittently used.
This refresher course will provide the learner with the knowledge, practical skills to give effective life support, diagnose & treat injuries or illness, and maintain care and comfort of the casualty and an understanding required to provide and co-ordinate first aid in the workplace in compliance with the requirements of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007: Part 7 – Chapter 2: First Aid and associated guide to these regulations. An occupational first aider is a qualified person who is trained by a registered competent instructor in accordance with the standard set by the H.S.A. of Ireland and the P.H.E.C.C.
This programme is delivered as a 1-day course by Certified Occupational First Aid Instructor from the HSA register.
Pre-Course Requirements
Participants must hold a current Occupational First Aid Certificate having attended a course prior to 1st September 2008 or obtained a FETAC Level 5 Occupational First Certificate post 1st September 2008. Refresher training must be attended within 3 years if original certificate was obtained prior to 1st September 2008 and two years thereafter for certificates obtained post 1st September 2008.
