Case Study – Manual Handling

A client recently enquired about becoming a qualified Manual Handling Instructor (FETAC Level 6).

HSS quoted this client for her training requirements. A little while later, during further discussions with the client, we discovered that her business has 6 staff, with an additional seasonal intake of about 6 workers. When we worked out the costs with this Client (including the cost of training, attending this 5 day program, as well as additional training time with her employees in the future), it became apparent that this would be a costly exercise.

Instead, we prepared a company ‘Induction Training Program‘. We delivered the first of these programs for her, with her existing staff, which she attended. This client now delivers this program herself to all new/ seasonal staff, as well as annually, as a refresher, to existing staff.

After new staff have had a successful ‘probationary period’ with her company, she sends these staff to HSS on ‘public’ manual handling training courses. Thus, she has the confidence of knowing that she has introduced a preventative policy, in a manner that is cost effective and efficient for her firm, whilst also satisfying statutory/ compliance requirements.
